Overview
The Department of General Surgery at BAMTH performs a wide range of elective, urgent and emergency surgical procedures. Backed by modern Operation Theaters and an experienced surgical team, we deliver safe, effective and patient-centered surgical care for conditions affecting the abdomen, gastrointestinal tract, soft tissues, endocrine glands and more.
Surgical Services
- Abdominal surgery including appendectomy, hernia repair, bowel resection and colostomy
- Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery — cholecystectomy, appendectomy, diagnostic laparoscopy
- Upper GI surgery including gastric procedures and anti-reflux surgery
- Colorectal surgery
- Breast surgery — lumpectomy, mastectomy and reconstructive procedures
- Thyroid and parathyroid surgery
- Minor surgical procedures — excision of cysts, lipomas, abscess drainage
- Trauma surgery in liaison with the A&E Department
- Wound care and management of complex surgical wounds
- Endoscopic procedures — upper and lower GI endoscopy
Facilities
Four fully equipped Operation Theaters, a dedicated post-operative recovery unit, pre-operative assessment facilities, and surgical wards with round-the-clock nursing supervision.
Our Team
Senior consultant surgeons, FCPS-qualified registrars, and specialist nursing staff. The department serves as a teaching unit for MBBS and postgraduate surgical trainees at BAMDC.
