BLOOD BANK Department

The Blood Bank at BAMTH is an essential service supporting surgical, emergency, haematological and obstetric care across the hospital. We maintain a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood components, ensuring that patients in critical need receive compatible, screened blood products promptly.

• Blood grouping and cross-matching
• Collection, processing and storage of whole blood and blood components
• Preparation and supply of: packed red blood cells (PRBCs), fresh frozen plasma (FFP), platelets, and cryoprecipitate
• Emergency blood supply for trauma, surgery and obstetric haemorrhage
• Pre-operative cross-match for elective and emergency surgery
• Autologous blood collection (where appropriate)
• Donor screening — hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, syphilis, malaria
• Blood donor recruitment and voluntary donation drives

Every unit of blood at BAMTH is rigorously screened for transfusion-transmissible infections before being issued. Our Blood Bank operates under strict regulatory and quality standards to protect both donors and recipients
