Moved by the suffering of the underprivileged, a group of philanthropists led by Mian Muhammad Rasheed established an outdoor dispensary at Masoom Shah Road, Multan in January 1998. The response from the community was immediate and overwhelming, confirming that there was a profound, unmet need for accessible healthcare in the region.
Inspired by the success of the dispensary, the founders formally established Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Trust in April 1999. The Trust was registered with the Sub-Registrar Urban Multan under the Trust Act of 1882 (Registration No. 3164/1, dated 08-05-1999). It was also certified by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), affirming its non-profit, non-political and non-governmental character.
The Trust rapidly developed a full-fledged hospital at Northern Bypass, Multan. The facility grew steadily in capacity and services, adding specialist departments, operation theaters, wards, a laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and emergency services. The guiding philosophy was to provide the quality of care available at private hospitals, but accessible to all — including the poorest segments of society.
BAMTH was formally affiliated with Bakhtawar Amin Medical and Dental College (BAMDC), transforming it into a teaching hospital. This affiliation elevated clinical standards and brought in academic faculty, research activities and postgraduate training. The hospital received recognition from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) for FCPS training.
Over the following years, the Trust expanded its clinical services to include specialized units for dialysis, ophthalmology, physiotherapy, dental care, maternity, paediatrics, and intensive care. Free charity programs — including the Smile Train initiative for cleft lip/palate corrections, free eye surgery camps, dialysis support, hepatitis treatment, and anti-TB campaigns — were launched and have served tens of thousands of deserving patients.
Today, Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Trust Hospital stands as a 500-bed, multi-specialty teaching hospital with 29 active clinical departments, modern diagnostic services, ICU facilities, and a fully functional Medical and Dental College. With over 25 years of service, we have treated hundreds of thousands of patients and have cemented our reputation as one of the most trusted and beloved healthcare institutions in South Punjab.
Our journey continues. Guided by faith, driven by compassion, and sustained by the generous support of our donors and trustees, we look forward to the decades ahead — committed to healing, teaching and serving.
